Cinderella
A Fresh Look at the Children’s Classic Premieres in Brooklyn This Summer
(New York, NY) - Youth on Target Theater Company is proud to present a new take on Cinderella, playing in Brooklyn in June and July 2008. Veering from the familiar Disney telling, this production offers children a relatable tale rooted in the Italian tradition of the classic story.
There are no dancing mice or transforming pumpkins in this Cinderella. Rather than scrubbing floors and feeding chickens, our would-be heroine spends her days mourning the death of her father, while avoiding her mother and her ridiculous sisters. She hides in her room, reading and imagining what her life could have been. But with the help of a Fairy Godmother, determined to return Cinderella to happiness, she may attend the ball after all.
The Youth on Target production, under the direction of New York University Educational Theater graduate Isabel Steuble-Johnson, incorporates fantastic costumes designed by Philadelphia artist Liz Goldberg and her students Holly Pacius and Elizabeth Bielli at Philadelphia University.
Cinderella brings together a fresh-faced cast of New York City children’s theater actors. Director Isabel Steuble-Johnson (The Paper Bag Players)also stars as Cinderella, and is joined by Youth on Target veterans and full-time theater teachers Caitlin Heibach (Young Women's Leadership School of Astoria) and Sarah Bellantoni (The Chapin School) as her sisters Margaret and Gertrude. Sierra Marcks (Looking Glass Theater) is featured as the instrumental Fairy Godmother, along with Christina Zagarino (Shakespeare To Go) as the not-so-wicked Mother and David Futernick (College Humor) as the Prince.
Tickets: $15 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under

About Youth on Target
Youth on Target is a children’s theater company formed in the summer of 2006 to create unconventional performances that are both family-friendly and provocative.
About the Director and Cast
Isabel Steuble-Johnson (Cinderella/Director) has worked as an actor, director and educator throughout the United States. She has played Cinderella twice and looks forward to bringing new life to the classic story. Most recently seen in The Paper Bag Players’ 2007 production, Dandelion. Directing credits include the Lottery and Not A Lion. She is a 2005 New York University, Educational Theatre graduate.
Sarah Bellantoni (Gertrude) graduated from NYU's Educational Theatre program in 2005 and has since been teaching drama at The Chapin School in Manhattan. Recent credits include Youth on Target's production of Jungalbook, Eliza's Window, Caucasian Chalk Circle, and The Love of the Nightingale.
David Futernick (Prince) worked with Horizon Theatre Rep, Emerging Artists Theatre, Introvenus Theatre Company, and Manhattan Children's Theatre. In addition to the stage, David is a regular in shorts for Collegehumor (nominated for an ECNY) and Dutchwest. Education: B.F.A. Marymount Manhattan College.
Caitlin Heibach (Margaret) is the theater teacher at the Young Women's Leadership School of Astoria. She graduated from New York University with a degree in Educational Theater. She directed Youth on Target's first production of Jungalbook.
Sierra Marcks (Fairy Godmother) Previous credits include The Imaginary Invalid (Looking Glass Theatre), Who Will Carry The Word? (Red Fern Theatre), Teaching (Artists of Tomorrow Fest.), among others. She is a graduate of Marymount Manhattan College.
Christina Zagarino (Mother) is a recent graduate of NYU's Program in Educational Theatre. Theatrical credits include The Love of the Nightingale, Mad Forest, Cotton Girls, Stonewater Rapture and characters including Bianca, Ophelia, Juliet and Hermia as a four-year company member of the non-profit touring company: Shakespeare-To-Go.
